SHAKTII Celebrates Academic Excellence Through the Saxena Memorial Scholarships
July 2026
– In a moving tribute to the enduring legacies of two remarkable minds, the Saxena family has awarded academic scholarships to three meritorious 11th-standard girl students.
– The scholarships are instituted under the auspices of SHAKTII, a Navi Mumbai-based non-governmental organization dedicated to providing free supplemental coaching, mentorship, and skills training to underprivileged girls.
– The initiative honours the memory of the late Dr. Mahesh Chandra Saxena, a distinguished scientist who served at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), and his eldest son, the late Dr. Amitabh Saxena, celebrated as one of India’s foremost experts in cryptography, who bravely battled cancer for a year before his passing.
– To mark the occasion, a heartfelt handover ceremony was organized by SHAKTII’s founder, Vimala Nandakumar, alongside her dedicated team. The event brought together the student community and members of the Saxena family to celebrate academic excellence and resilience.
– The three young beneficiaries received their scholarship endowments directly from Mrs. Sudha Saxena (wife of the late Dr. Mahesh Saxena) and Dr. Sanchita Prasad (wife of the late Dr. Amitabh Saxena).
“Education and scientific inquiry were the cornerstones of both my father’s and brother’s lives,” said Aparna Saxena, social entrepreneur, daughter of Dr. Mahesh Saxena, and a long-standing benefactor of SHAKTII. “Through these scholarships, we hope to ignite the same passion for learning in these bright young women, ensuring that financial constraints do not stand in the way of their dreams.”
– The celebration also featured a vibrant cultural contribution from the student community, with 20 girls currently enrolled in SHAKTII’s programs coming together to perform a powerful motivational song, uplifting the spirits of everyone in attendance.
– By investing in the education of young women at a pivotal high-school juncture, the Saxena family and SHAKTII aim to carry forward a legacy of intellectual brilliance and social responsibility, paving the way for a more equitable future.
