National Girl Child Day – 24th January

2025-2026

January 2026

– The National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India every year on January 24. It was started by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Government of India in 2008, with the purpose to spread awareness among people about all the inequalities girls face in the Indian society. Project SHAKTII is an after school program to empower girl students from underprivileged backgrounds. We at Shaktii believe in a hands-on learning experience that focuses on delivering a wholesome education to these bright young girls.
– Since it was a holiday for Shaktii, the day was celebrated in a different way. The girls were asked to send a 30 secs video on why they feel proud of being a girl child!! ( these were the responses)
“I feel proud for being a girl since for being a girl we need lots of strength and courage. I think I have the courage to face challenges, to aim high and to work harder. So as I’m growing and I know I will be a woman out of the girl one day, I will have lots of responsibilities and I will have to fulfil them. I am grateful to god that he chose me as a girl because he knows that I am capable of fulfiling all the responsibilities and I am capable of doing everything and I too think that I am capable of doing everything in this world.” — Tanu Parihar
“I am proud of being a Shaktii girl because it not only enhances our English but also teaches us how to believe in ourselves. Shaktii empowers girls to ensure that in future they are not dependent. Nobody has told me that. I am my own best friend first. Shaktii makes me aware of it. That’s why I feel very proud of Shaktii and Shaktii will be a memorable part of my life.” – Sampada Monde
“I am proud of being of being a girl because it has made me stronger and understanding. I have learnt that how to care for people, stand up for myself and handle my challenges in my own way. It’s a part of being who I am and I am happy with that. Being a girl gives me strength to face the world confidently. That is why I feel proud for myself.” — Dhanroshni Saw
