– Eleventh October was celebrated at Shaktii with great fervor and enthusiasm. We had double celebrations as it was also last day of the 1 st term of the 11 th year of Shaktii.
– We thought of having Diwali party to end this milestone on a high note.
– A Rangoli competition was organized to bring in the mood of the festival of lights – art is something the girls are good at and enjoy. The theme was “Floral or Diya or Both”.
– Girls were divided in twos. Nine teams vied for the top spot. Surprisingly Sampada Monde was left alone as her team mate could not come. She was awarded the 1 st prize-not only was her Rangoli adjudged the best but also she finished first.
– Soumaya Pal and Danroshni Saw were awarded the second prize. Each team did a marvelous job of using best colour combinations and imagination to their rangolis .
– The celebrations were extra-special since three of the judges , my associates from Anushaktiinagar – Lalitha Ramaswamy (former Physics teacher of AEJC), Sheela Shanker ( German Teacher plus daughter of Parvati Teacher) and Shubhnagi Hinge (my former student and mentor ) agreed graciously to come to the centre. Gorgeous Arunima – a friend of Kalyani Basu was the fourth judge.
– Though Diwali will be celebrated a week later everywhere, Shaktii started it yesterday. Rangoli, Diyas, Sweets –the physical aspects were combined with laughter, jokes and joy. The girls left the centre with excitement and happiness for it did not matter who won the prize. They put in their best efforts. A lesson “ be happy for others “ –is learnt and practiced at Shaktii by the girls.
